Black Rock Wheat American Wheat Ale Malt Extract Recipe James Perkins 10 Sep 2001 Prepared for an experimental rocket launch in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. I wanted something that would brew quickly, as I had just 3 weeks before we left for the desert. The features are a lot of hop flavor, and the soft wheat palate on this light beer. "Mystery" Hops (Fuggle?) 0.75 oz. Northern Brewer Hops 7.4AA 0.75 oz. Hallertauer Hops 0.5 oz. Saaz Hops 0.5 oz Cascade Hops (from the backyard hops plant) 3/4 cup corn sugar for bottling Enough water for 5 gal. 1 Packet Cooper's Dry Ale Yeast Hopping Schedule: 0.5 oz."Msytery" for entire 60 min of boil 0.75 oz. Northern Brewer for entire 60 min of boil 0.5 oz. Hallertauer for last 15 min of boil 0.25 oz. Hallertauer for last 2 min of boil 0.5 oz. Saaz dry in sock 24 hours after fermentation starts 0.5 oz. Cascade dry in sock 24 hours after fermentation starts 9/8/01 brewed. Let grains sit at rest at 152°F for 20 min, then removed grains at 180°F. 9/9/01 pitched yeast in morning. O.G. 1.053 at 68°F. By late evening, a powerful fermentation was happening 9/10/01 added dry hops sock. Powerful fermentation still happening.
